The Ministry of Culture creates the National Composers Competition

The Georgian Ministry of Culture announced on Wednesday the establishment of the National Composers Competition with the aim of supporting the development of talent in the field.

Seeking to develop the national art of composition and promote the creative activity of composers, the competition will be organized by the Jansug Kakhidze Tbilisi Music and Culture Center with a total budget of ₾65,000 ($21,454 / 19,685 €).

The biennial celebration will welcome Georgian citizens as well as their foreign counterparts, with the competition to be held separately for 17-25 year olds and artists over 25.

The organizers will award prizes in the following categories:

Chamber music

  • First Prize – ₾2,000 ($660/€606)
  • Second Prize – ₾1,500 ($495/€454)
  • Third Prize – ₾1,000 ($330/€303)

Choral/vocal music

  • First Prize – ₾2,000 ($660/€606)
  • Second Prize – ₾1,500 ($495/€454)
  • Third Prize – ₾1,000 ($330/€303)

Symphonic music

  • First Prize – ₾5,000 ($1,650/€1,516)
  • Second Prize – ₾3,000 ($990/€909)
  • Third Prize – ₾2,000 ($660/€606)

The first edition of the National Composers Competition will take place next fall. The ministry will begin accepting applications from September 20, and candidate registration will continue until October 20.

The results of the competition will be published on the official Facebook page of the ministry no later than December 15, said the national body.
