Steeped in the emotions of blues, folk and country music, roots singer-songwriter Kerri Powers uses her dramatically dark voice to tap into the depths of romantic heartbreak and shattered dreams in the edgy narratives of her songs. Hailing from rural Massachusetts, Powers sings the blues with such authentic, local grit that you might think she’s from Mississippi.

As well as being an accomplished chronicler of disappointment and despair, she can also transform into a mischievous, cheeky rebel with a cause, a Mark Twain-esque trickster whose wry words and phrasing can also celebrate joy and happiness. ‘hope. According to John Apice of No Depression, “I don’t know where this young lady is from, but it must be a secret place. It’s not the kind of singing and performing that can be easily taught. It must be in your mind, in your blood, and the fact that she’s from the Northeast is going to confuse artists down South, in the Delta, in Memphis, Clarksdale, Austin and Nashville.
