“I’m so grateful to /kor/ productions in Chicago for hosting this fall semester residency with SUNY Fredonia’s Hillman Opera, and I’m honored to be composer-in-residence alongside Jean Kim,” said Jarrar told OperaWire. “In this position, I am delighted to offer my catalog to students via /kor/ for them to play. New music should be performed at all ages, levels and stages of artistic development, and many of the works I produce are successfully produced by students and seasoned professionals. This residency celebrates the accessibility of my production.

“Yesterday, during my coachings with the singers via Zoom, I was touched to see how the students really resonated with my stories, my queer themes, and really worked to learn not only the music, but all the emotions that I put in those songs when I wrote them,” he concluded.
