Eurovision fans will know that Cláudia Pascoal was Portugal’s home starter when the country hosted the contest in 2018. She won Cancao Festival with “O Jardim”, composed by Isaura. However, it is now Cláudia’s turn to be the one writing the music.

Bárbara Tinoco is also no stranger to Cancao Festivalhaving finished second in 2020. She performed “Master key“, which was written by Tiago Nacarato. Thus, Bárbara will also have the chance to show off her songwriting skills.

It is up to the composers to decide whether they wish to perform their own song at Cancao Festival, or if they would like someone else to be upfront and sing. Therefore, there is still a chance that we will see both Cláudia Pascoal and Bárbara Tinoco return to the Cancao Festival arrange.

RTP initially predicted by directly inviting 16 composers to participate. The other four would be chosen through the public song submission portal, where 667 songs were submitted.

However, one of the artists invited by RTP unfortunately had to withdraw following a personal accident. Instead, the Portuguese broadcaster filled its space with an additional fifth entry from the public submissions.
