Jennifer Sgroe Headlines PROJECT 2020: A vision of female composers in the 21st century “From isolation to inspiration”

PROJECT 2020: A View of 21st C. Women Composers will present “From Isolation to Inspiration” on March 27-31, 2022.

The recital will feature soprano Jennifer Sgroe and pianist Eric Sedgwick and will feature the world premiere of two songs, “A Time in Isolation” and “They Say This Isn’t America”, by Nailah Nombeko. The concert will also feature music from BE Boykin, Jodi Goble, Lori Laitman, Cecelia Livingston, Julia Meinwald, Nailah Nombeko, Luna Pearl Wolf, Paola Prestini, Shruthi Rajasekar, Jessica Rudman, Kamala Sankaram, Lauren Spavelko and Gwyneth Walker.

“Originally scheduled for May 2020 but suspended due to challenges due to COVID-19, we are excited to be able to return to creating music in person after recording many pieces for this socially distanced program between Boston and New York. The recording project served as a preparation tool but not a substitute for real-time organic collaboration. We are also very happy to present in preview the new songs commissioned by Nailah for this first program. For this reason, and because 2020 means much more than an expression of our musical project, we will keep the project’s original title, PROJECT 2020, and honor this unusual time we are experiencing with the title of the first program “From Isolation to Inspiration said Sgroe in an official press release.

The March 27 performance will take place at the Blue Building in New York City while the March 31 performance will take place at the Chase Young Gallery in Boston. There will be a virtual encore showcase scheduled via Sparrow Live between April 18 and May 2.
