Cimarron Breeze Concert – Songwriters in the Round
(Perkins, Okla) – Enjoy a magical musical evening at the Old Church in Perkins with Oklahoma songwriters swapping songs and stories. Cimarron Songbird Monica Taylor will host Carter Sampson, Ken Pomeroy, Jared Tyler and Travis Fite. Bring a dish and enjoy a pot-luck dinner at 6 p.m., the concert starts at 7 p.m.
CARTER SAMPSON is an Okie-born singer-songwriter with a big voice. The Oklahoma City-based artist is blessed with a family musical heritage that includes talents like Roy Orbison.
Her journey as a naturally independent and free-spirited musician has at times seemed almost predestined. At 15, she began experimenting with sound as a way to pass the time. now, her creativity has matured into the dedicated and passionate performance that makes her a favorite singer.
KEN POMEROY is a singer-songwriter with a Folk Americana sound. Transcending his age, Ken has a unique vocal quality that blends seamlessly with his heartfelt lyrics. Ken started singing, songwriting and playing the baritone ukulele when he was 9 years old. She quickly learned to play concert and soprano ukulele, and at age 10 began playing guitar. In 2018 Ken opened for the legendary Wanda Jackson at the Oklahoma Rodeo Centennial Opry. In 2018, Ken won the 1st Annual Jimmy LaFave Songwriting Contest in Stillwater, Oklahoma at Willie’s Saloon.
JARED TYLER is an American singer-songwriter who has opened for many artists and groups such as Emmylou Harris, Nickel Creek, Merle Haggard, Wilco, Shelby Lynne, Dave Wilcox, Shannon Lawson, John Hammond and Willis Alan Ramsey.
In addition to touring with Malcolm Holcombe, Tyler has recorded with Holcombe; Shannon Lawson; Tractors; Jelly Roll Johnson; bassist and producer Dave Pomeroy; and producer Scott Harding, EmmyLou Harris, Mary Kay Place, Dave Wilcox, Iris Dement, Darrell Scott, John Moreland, John Fulbright, Jimmy LaFave, Carter Sampson, Seth Lee Jones, and more.
TRAVIS FITE has been part of many groups and musical ensembles. He toured with funk-soul bands such as Phat Thumb, What It Is (San Francisco), Leon Russell and R&B ensembles such as Full Flava Kings, Wayman Tisdale, Eldridge Jackson and Toni Estes.
Travis can be seen in his current solo act Uncle Funkus as well as his two main sets The Steve White Group and the 7-piece Funk set “Fuzed” as well as his multi-style set with singer-songwriter Jared Tyler and acclaimed songwriter Monica Taylor (Perkin).
Travis currently runs the SoulTree recording studio in Perkins, Ok, writing, producing and recording music for local and national artists. This fall, Travis will reprise his role as Dragging Canoe for the ninth season in the original musical drama “Nanyehi, The Nancy Ward Story,” written by famed Nashville songwriter and performer Becky Hobbs.
